Electrical Safety
ALWAYS SHUT POWER OFF
DO NOT WORK ON ENERGIZED EQUIPMENT
The most life-threatening hazards in a home are:
- falling while working in high places
- Electrocution caused by coming in contact with live electrical circuits
- Being crushed by falling materials or objects
- Being struck by flying objects or moving equipment
While performing electrical repairs in your home, you will be exposed to many potentially dangerous conditions.
- No training manual, set of rules and regulations, or listing of hazards can make working conditions 100% safe. However, it IS possible for a home owner to work without serious injury, as long as you stay consistently alert and practice basic rules of safety.
You must be safety-conscious at all times. Safety should become a habit. Remember that your safety is up to you.
- Electrical work in the home should only performed under the direction of experienced personnel familiar with the various job site hazards that will be encountered, and means of avoiding them.
Be wary of cuts, burns, back sprains, and getting chemicals or objects in your eyes.
Most injuries, both life threatening and less severe, are preventable if the proper precautions are taken.
